MUNICH The 19th Edition of the International DANCE Festival Munich is ready to go from May 22nd to June 1st 2025 with 19 productions at 12 different venues across Munich. Unofficially, this year’s program revolves around the theme of "community", a central concern for many choreographers, reflected throughout the invited productions. "In light of the geopolitical upheavals of recent years, contemporary dance is actively searching for artistic responses to social division," says artistic director Tobias Staab.
The festival opens on May 22nd with acclaimed U.S. choreographer Ligia Lewis engaging with the absurdity of existence in deader than dead. After two nights of live performances, a video version of deader than dead will be on view as part of Lewis’ performative installation study now steady until the end of the festival. The second part of the opening is marked by the renowned collective (LA)HORDE, artistic directors of the Ballet National de Marseille. Various works surrounding To Da Bone by (LA)HORDE will come together in a performative installation created specifically for Muffatwerk.
The new collaboration with Volkstheater brings to the stage Anne Teresa de Keersmaeker’s first work from 1982: Fase, Four Movements to the Music of Steve Reich.

At and with Münchner Kammerspiele, DANCE will welcome the renowned inclusive company Dançando com a Diferença, presenting their collaboration with Marlene Monteiro FreitasÔSS.

La Veronal will close the festival on May 31st and June 1st with their visually stunning TOTENTANZ – Tomorrow is the Question.
Munich favorites Trajal Harrell and Richard Siegal will take over the Kunstbau at Lenbachhaus, while Jefta van Dinther invites audiences on an immersive journey with AUSLAND, presented in the West Gallery of Haus der Kunst. Two very unique productions will be also featured: Ewa Dziarnowska’This resting, patience and François Chaignaud & Théo Mercier’s Radio Vinci Park, while Moritz Ostruschnjak will give audiences a preview of his brand new Cardboard Sessions during the festival’s closing weekend (world premiere on June 28). 
The programme also include Alice Ripoll / Cia. SUAVE with ZONA FRANCA, the young duo Davi Pontes / Wallace Ferreira, presenting parts 2 and 3 of their Repertório trilogy, showcases of selected works created by students from the Munich Academy of Fine Arts, but also lectures, workshops, and talks on the topic of body politics.
